Memorabilia Needed

Take those letter jackets and cheerleader outfits out of mothballs!! Kearny Principal Ana Diaz-Booz has made a special request from Kearny alumni. She has created a Kearny memorabilia haven in the high school’s main office. Trophies, signs, and sports clothing adorn the walls in an area that looks more like a living room (comfy and warm) than a sterile high school office.

Principal Ana is asking for donations or loans of any Kearny memorabilia to display as part of Kearny’s history. She promises that items will be well taken care of, displayed in shadow box type frames, and items will not be handled after being placed on display or until returned to the original owner or placed in storage if donated.

Please contact Principal Ana Diaz-Booz at Kearny (858) 496-8370 for further information. Thanks in advance to everyone for contributing. Go Komets!!

Mr. Corlett’s Retirement Event

Thank you to all of the Alumni and former KHS Staff that came out to celebrate Mr. Corlett’s retirement. It was great to see familiar faces, catch up and hang out with Mr. Corlett outside of the classroom!

We wish Mr. Rick Corlett all the best in the next chapter called retirement.

Kearny/Montgomery Picnic

This past Saturday, 150 people from the Kearny and Montgomery communities, along with their families and friends, came to Admiral Baker Park to celebrate the decades of friendship and camaraderie that we share, and to remember a special friend of our community, Dennis D.J. Jones. The picnic was an amazing success! And all of the credit goes to Margie Jones, Laurie Leah Quitugua, Mark Anthony George, and Jocelyn Ylagan Burkhart, who planned this whole thing with David Coleman (KHS c/o ’78). Thank you to all who attended. The group is looking forward to meeting up again at the same time next year.

Special dedication for Mr. Rick Corlett

A room at Kearny High School has been named and dedicated to retiring teacher Rick Corlett as this is his last year teaching. The alumni purchased and gave Rick a letterman’s jacket so he will always remember how loved he is.

Mr. Corlett recently had the honor of throwing the first pitch at the Kearny vs. Mira Mesa baseball game at Petco Park. Below is a picture taken after the game. The Alumni Association is very grateful for the tremendous amount of support Mr. Corlett has extended through the years! He will be missed!
